This is just another piece of proof showing that lobbyists control US politics entirely.
Background checks are supported by 90%+ of the population, and yet they couldn't even get a simple up or down vote.
Americans basically have two choices, either they can rally to get money out of politics, or they can continue being ignored by their own "representatives".

Dane, blanket background checks are a prelude to more control which is intended to lead to confiscation. If you were aware of what the anti gun orgs wanted, then you might know something about it. You claim to despise lobbyists.
Do you have to register a car if you never take it off your property? You don't here. You can drive it all over your property and have a demolition derby if you want. I remember farmers and ranchers had cars with no plates that they only used on their property back in Oklahoma.
I don't park my gun on city streets and I don't pound it on the pavement. So after I own it, there is no further state involvement with ownership that is of any benefit. There was none of value in the first place.
Provisions for law breakers with guns are already in place.
