Problem is.. as we have seen in Libyan and seeing in Syria.
All the small arms (and morale) in the world can't do much against a Airforce and Mechanised Army. There is of course always the option of fighting a classic guerilla war. But if you think the 2nd amendment would stop a tyrannical U.S armed forces sweeping and clearing your town or suburb or city district. I think your mistaken.

It does minimise the problem of criminals having guns, it does not make it go away.

I don't really think the fact that "shitty" countries have guns really means anything.
