it means that they're the same group of people, dharma. those incompetents who you scoff at for killing kids and raping girls are the same people occupying afghanistan right now. the only difference is the hardware, and that's slowly eroding.

I'm scoffing at them for fingering the booty holes of motorists looking for dope and tasing teenagers to death for scuffling in the halls of their school (both types of incident has been recently featured in the news). And I think the example of the Afghan occupation speaks for itself.

If the USG can't satisfactorily control Afghanistan via occupation the idea that they could handle a major domestic insurrection is in jeopardy, especially while the bulk of it's military forces are entangled in foreign conflicts they can't cope with.

The fact is the potential for force projection is not nearly what you imagine it to be. It's one thing to pick on goat herders, teenagers, and lonely motorist on the side of the road, but quite another to do what you propose.

A major domestic insurrection would immediately result in a new government.

Well hopefully the powers that be wouldn't try to use a major disaster as a pretext to instigate tyrannical curtailment of personal freedoms on a permanent basis . I think everyone understands that martial law might be put in effect in case of a disaster, but that doesn't necessarily mean curfews and house to house searches or what have you will necessarily be a part of it. The point is, if the government went over board with that kind of crap they would simply be thrown out and replaced with something a little more representative of the will f the people.

Unless you are talking about the government forcibly evacuating people during disasters or something. I think they will pretty much just leave your ass there if you make a fuss about it.
