If a baddie knows I own a firearm am I safer?

Not condoning the outing of gun owners. I'm against it on privacy grounds. I just wonder who has given any attention to the lists and for what reasons other than the folks looking to make hay one way or another. It seems to me like the NYT is offering another hot potato to keep gun ownership in the news as the topic looses more and more steam in the news cycle. Also another way to demonize gun ownership and their owners as some sort of dangerous demographic that needs to be dealt with legislatively. I smell backfire...again. IMO

There may be a good side effect to all this. If NYT does put up an interactive map of all gun owners in NYC and the pro gunners retaliate by posting addresses of all staffers maybe someone could torch Paul Krugman's house so he can stop his Keynesian economic nonsense.
