that's a good one.
home defense wish list:
M1897 Trench gun
the pump usually is enough to scare folks off, if it doesn't work you can hit them with it.

Why do you guys always think that you need a gun for home defense? Other countries, such as Britain, do plenty well without guns.

Mine is a plain-old Colt M1911. The old .45 cal was my grandfather's in WW2. It's been through Okinawa, Iwo Jima and a few other battles, killing at least 2 Japanese infantrymen.
While I hope it never has to, I think it'll do the job on some crackhead intruder.

In my experience, CC weapons make bad home defense weapons and vice versa. For CCW, you want small and light so you'll actually carry it. People brag about carrying full sized 1911s and XDs, but most of the ones I've met leave them at home frequently. I have a LCP 380 peashooter that weighs almost nothing and is easy to carry, but it's small for my hands. I recently fired my friends LCR 38 Sp and I prefer that, so I'll probably pick one up. Snubbies seem like the best CCW.
As for home defense, size and weight don't matter. The best option is 12ga pump shotgun with #4 birdshot. Easy to use, reliable, won't penetrate the walls and kill your kids, and bonus points for the pump sound. Yes, they're the best in my estimation. I have Mossberg 500 something or other super tactical extreme edition, but a $300 Remington 870 will do the same job. A flashlight attachment might make sense.
