I strongly believe that it was common people's access to effective means of violence that made liberalism possible.

The missing brick in our modern 2nd amendment rights is the lack of any meaningful militia structure.

Actually, even if you take away all the guns, even from criminals, people still have very effective means for violence. Cars, knives, blocks, gasoline, ad infinitum. Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

Just think, the average car carries 15 gallons of gas. That's easily transferred into a lethal weapon. Yet people pull up to gas stations with no extra lic. People can drive cars after a few hours of instruction and a test.

The problem with arming people with guns is that one crazy can do so much damage. If people were to be trained in self defense we'd be much better off.
