Crusades and inquisitions and witch trials. Seems to me the Christians were always pretty high strung right up to that post-prohibition era you mentioned. It's entirely possible that Jews were engaging in all sorts of similar shenanigans that I just haven't heard about and then again the comparison may be unfair since the Jews rarely had much power to abuse.

You're right about Israel too. I grew up in a school district with a very high Jewish population and a considerable portion of those had parents from Israel. The American Jewish parents were awesome and a great place for a sleepover. The Israeli Jewish parents were straight up terrifying individuals. But that wasn't a religious thing. A lot of the Israelis we less devout than the American Jews.

Well there were no Christians in America during the Crusades. That, along with the Inquisition, was just an example of the Christians being pretty high-drama historically. But my observation about Jews and Christians more directly refers to more recent times and the present day. Both religions have their fundies. Here in NYC there's a large Hasidic population, but unlike the Christian fundies they just want to do them. Christian fundies launch campaigns to stop gay marriage and hold hostile protests outside abortion clinics. Hasidics don't do any of that. They only get pissy when hipsters move into their hood and gentrify it into a den of hedonism. They aren't an outgoing bunch and probably want nothing to do with you unless you're doing business with them, but they aren't hostile about it.

I don't disagree with your points, but I think there's another key difference between Judaism and Christianity. Proselytizing. The Jews are basically about "we are God's people, the chosen ones, that's why we don't eat ham and the rest of the world can do whatever they want because they aren't the chosen ones anyway". Christians on the other hand feel like teaching others to accept Jesus as their personal savior is part of doing God's work, which cultural translates to feeling justified in being confrontational to those who don't do things the way you do.

well the very core of their beliefs are different. in the old testament, god cared for the isrealites to the exclusion of the gentiles to the point of genocide. the new testament is all about how god is love and wants everybody to love him because he's so awesome, so explicitly encourages believers to recruit more into the fold. so yes, it ends up being a bit 'confrontational' but the christians are trying to save your eternal soul. the jews? they don't give a shit, they're god's chosen people and you're not one of them so gtfo
