Basically, athiesm = seeing is believing. Since about all religions rely mostly on faith, thats probably the reason most athiests struggle with it. But to each their own.

K. how can you possibly say something as ridiculous as that a faith-based absolute morality where what is right is only right because a totalitarian figure in the sky said so has anything to do with a secular utilitarian ethics where what is right is predicated upon the consequences of specific actions and so on?

How can you also say something as ridiculous as that you think that altruism is evil (although, I'm sure I can begin guess why an Ayn Rand cultist would say such a thing)?

I do find it a bit beyond hypocritical for the poster calling humanists and altruists "evil" to whine like an infant about "name calling." Send your complaints along with your hypocrisy straight to the devil. I'm not interested.

I will repeat to Zeugma what I already said to Gnostic when he made the very same baseless assertion: Pseudo-psychological gibberish poorly hiding naked sociopathology and malevolent totalitarianism.

Zeugma is demonstrating quite well the ignorant maliciousness of postmodern irrationality. Altruism isn't a claim, it's a behavior, to begin with. Secondly, altruism does not require and/or engender "resentment and condemnation of the individual who sticks out from the group." I demand to see some evidence from you to support this preposterous assertion.

Thirdly, I would also like to see the psychological study that demonstrates that altruism "functions so as to hamper self-esteem and drive among the creative..." and that it breeds "laziness and inertia" and "destructive greed."

I won't be up for long in waiting because I've reviewed the research on altruism and no such findings have ever been published.

This is, lastly, again, a perfect demonstration of the ignorant maliciousness of postmodern irrationality. It is precisely what I have already mentioned. I will repeat: I understand the dim and poorly read believe that it's hip to argue infantile falsifications and contradictions with the false belief that something profound is being articulated. I find it rank idiocy and boring myself.
