Well, it depends on how you divide things up. If you look at it in terms of OS, then they have to go up against 2 giants. If you look at it from hardware, they have to go against 2 giants and a bunch of little guys scrounging for scraps.

I want Microsoft to succeed, because I think it'll help the market.

I'm reading this as Microsoft is going to implement some of Apple's business strategy of consolidating technology, cutting out diversity, so that it has a more visible brand. It's a shame really, because one aspect people appreciate about MS is that if you buy their tech legally, you can mess around with it all you want - especially the hardware.

Apple does not allow this. If you try to customize your mac in any way, Apple deems it broke by the user.
