I'm curious to read what everyone else uses for home media center. I'm looking to change my media center out to something that will easily share across the house. No matter what room I'm in, I want to be able to access any movie stored on the hard drives, Netflix or Kodi (XBMC). Currently, I'm using Apple TVs (two 3rd gen, two 2nd gen, one 1st gen). I've just recently found out that using Plex, I can use my NAS to serve my movies even to non-jailbroken ATVs.

I use plex and playon/playlater. I'm too stupid to get XBMC to work right so I just gave up on it.
Playon/playlater I use primarily as an internet DVR for the networks online TV broadcasts, it has addskipper built in which is nice. There is an Android App and a Roku App. One needs to use the app to enable the addskipping.
Now I normally use my FireTV box to watch TV and my "DVR'd" shows... no playon app for the FireTV but Plex works good so that's what I use even though I have to FF through the adv. Plex also works good to view home pictures and movies on as well.

Is Plex a pay service that you have to subscribe to monthly, yearly or whatever?
