Firstly, Islam is more than just a religion, its a way of life (as per what an imam told me years ago), there are a lot of laws and directives to follow so to claim that culture and religion can somehow be separated is naive at best. In much of the rest of the world religion is intertwined with culture, much of the world's culture is based on religion.
Secondly, I think the West should reintroduce corporal punishment- just locking people up in a box without touching them doesnt necessarily reform them, its better to use lashings for petty crimes.
