Using Technology to Combat Growing Labor Costs

Of course, on the original topic… As more restaurants begin to opt to use technology to reduce labor does it have far reaching effects upon unemployment? Can raising the minimum wage be a situation where the battle is won but the war lost? There are high class restaurants that are now using iPads for their wine lists. Airlines are using self service kiosks. Hotels are using online check in. It's spreading.

Also I'm not picking on just Taco Bell. It's actually probably "healthier" depending on what you get than some of the other chains. I just think all fast food sucks and it's addictive.

Lol @ any "high end" restaurant trying to replace their sommelier with an iPad. That's a f**k joke. For less skilled service jobs though it could work. High end needs experienced professionals doing all that stuff.

So that article suggests I'm right.

Look if you go into Sizzler and order your meal off an iPad most people will probably be fine with that. If a food critic goes into a real restaurant and the hostess hands him an iPad and says "we have his instead of a sommelier" they'll get laughed out of the high end service industry.
