The guy who got arrested was acting like an idiot. Apparently grandstanding and shouting at cops that they are racist when he has not one f**k clue what is happening is totally cool, and not the mark of an immature dumbass with the preservation instincts of a snowball in hell. That being said, that dog didn't even attack. The cop who shot the dog was an asshole, and a coward. Of course he was trained to respond with maximum and overwhelming violence as soon as it looks like he might get a chipped nail, so the militarization of the police as PoS points out is a factor.

When you are dealing with animals versus humans, in my mind, the life of the animal is worth a scratch on a human being.
He didn't attack fully, true... but you don't know that he wouldn't...
