I am not starting this thread as an attempt to widen the gun debate but to look at something I'd not noticed till I read this article

The incident occurred 6 months ago, with todays decision it is going to be in the region of 9 months before the trial proper commences. Now I understand the desire of the police and the prosecution to make sure their ducks are in a row, but this seems to be an extraordinary length of time to wait for what seems a fairly open and shut case. Holmes is entitled to his day in court and to be judged by his peers, and many of the victims and relatives of those lost also must be seeking closure. So at what point have we passed the expectation of a timely trial.
