Success also could involve being in the right place at the right time, and to a lessor degree plain dumb luck. But it always involves the will to atleast try. Well, unless your just born with a silver spoon,lol.

For someone who teaches history you should be acutely aware that the "that's the way the world is" argument is hardly Valid. Last I checked we weren't living in a feudal society. Or on a latifundium. Or in tribal communes. But at the time "that's the way the world was" until it was changed.
