When I was something like an objectivist, I advocated those things because I found it comforting to have an ideology that was somewhat logical, based on principle, and could explain just about any situation you threw at it.

And then I realized the world doesn't work like that, and neither does the environment. Some things, no matter how "logical" they seem, are actually completely irrational.
