Yeah pretty much. Even the people that others don't get along with are valuable because of their interest in debating and discussing a wide variety of issues. This is a little intellectual internet enclave and it would suck for contributing members to go away.

It's not quite on the personal level of like having a pen pal or something, I guess. But more than a video game character, definitely. But I think i would be bummed if i heard one of you guys died or was maimed or something.

Humans form communities. Those humans that spend a lot of time in an online environment are going to form online communities. Its not something of more or lesser value than any other iteration of it. Communicating via binary is still communication, just not as personal as communication via vocal cords and facial expressions, I suppose.

Honestly, after 7 years its not as though we're all doing this for no reason.
