If the Big East champ shouldn't be anywhere near title contention, then they shouldn't be a division I team. It is bullshit to be governed by the very same rules as every other team in Division I, but to know you can compete and it won't mean shit in terms of hoisting the coach's trophy at the end of the year. One loss SEC teams bitch when they don't make the cut, yet Boise State goes undefeated for 3-4 straight years and barely makes top ten. I am sorry, but if you don't lose for 3-4 seasons, you deserve a title shot, regardless of what conference you reside in. If they get by a team like Bama, Auburn, Florida State, etc. so be it, they at least got the shot they won't get now. If you want to take top 8 teams, fine, but obviously an undefeated Sun Belt conference champ will not even get close to the top 8 despite an undefeated season, losing out to 2-3 loss SEC teams like Georgia and South Carolina. At this rate may as well make the top conferences Division I and tell the rest to make their own division.

Speaking of the Big East, now the American Athletic Conference, both Louisville and UCF went 12-1 in 2013, and UCF beat the Big 12 champ Baylor in their bowl game. I don't care what conference you're in, 12 wins in a college season and a bowl win over a fellow conference champ is legit.

An undefeated big east or Boise would have a shot at the title in a 4 team playoff. Guaranteed shot at the title I. An 8 team playoff. Meanwhile, the last 8 years have shown 1 loss sec teams, or even teams that finish second in the sec, can make solid claims to be the best team in the country.

Bluntly, you shouldn't worry about conference because there is NO WAY a team with an argument to be the best in the country will be ranked 5th or worse, regardless of conference. Even if you want to dispute that, this will be an 8 team playoff soon and a 9th or worse team wouldn't want a shot at the title because they would embarrass themselves. The rankings account for strength of schedule, conference rankings only prove you are better than the band of retards in your rough geographic region.

Ucf will be top 4 if they repeat. Also, look at who they lost too. Losing to an Fcs team like Florida did is way worse than losing twice to bama and LSU for example.

Also, keep in mind no one wants to see teams from half of these conferences play. Michigan state vs #2 sec will get 5x the ratings of Michigan state vs Ucf. All other things equal, I'd rather have major conference teams play than minor conference winners.

But your ucf point is right, and that's why it will be expanded to 8 teams. No one thinks osu or ucf will win a title for example, but everyone thinks they should have some shot. 8 teams or god willing 16 would guarantee this. The point remains though, the current bus system is inferior to every playoff alternative.

The BCS is shit and although I am not high on a 14 person panel deciding the playoff teams, preferring a competitive based alternative to determine who the top 4, 8 or 16 teams are, I'll take what I can get in terms of a Div I football playoff from the NCAA.
