The whole episode needs investigating to find out why otherwise fairly decent young men not only behaved like monstrous video game characters, but tweeted it, facebooked it and filmed it.

You'll find studies for both sides of the argument, only a few of them really make any claims of increased aggression. I personally prefer to look at what the various meta-analysis' say, and in that regard the conclusions are pretty clear: there is a very small positive correlation between aggressive thoughts and behaviors in certain individuals and video games, but almost all such thoughts and behaviors are countered by reasonable parental guidance and supervision.

In the end, there are far, far worse contributing elements to violence and rape culture than media. Statistically, the links shown by research are hardly worth mentioning.
