You probably don't even notice you are code switching. I am sure you have a different tone of voice and oratory style when you are shooting the shit with your friends versus attending a job interview vs sweet talking to your wife vs accepting an award vs buying drugs vs making a toast ect vs talking to the deli counter guy vs talking to your boss vs talking to your kids ect.

If I am code-switching, I have three codes. Whispering, being my usual loud self, and screaming. I don't change my pitch much, unless I am whining, as I've noted. And I certainly don't fake stupid accents.

Not recognizing my own codeshifting is certainly possible. I take great pride in having excellent diction and speaking skills, so when I do speeches, I usually practice how I say something as much as what I'm saying. So I shouldn't say I never do it - I just find that I talk more or less the same in most situations.

But you're probably right. I guess I just don't like it when people do it to extremes. Emphasis is important in speech, but just randomly emphasizing certain parts of the speech ("Lyyyee-KUH" instead of "like") drives me nuts. So do people who change their voice on the phone - like my friend Kyle or that chick from Office Space.

I probably do it, but it just isn't as severe.

I always watch porn with the sound off, personally.

Everyone does this. If you can't code switch you probably have a mental disability. Valley girl talk is useful because a good majority of good looking women under 25 in this country understand that the best, and are most comfortable speaking in that tone. Of course, you should shit on people when they f**k it up. Valley girl talk to some chick at a party, eh, we all understand. Doing it oata pickup basketball game? You are gonna get your shit pushed in.

Believe it or not, some of us hang out with good looking girls who aren't morons, and the godawful State of Florida isn't reflective of the rest of your country.
