People wouldn't tip them if they got paid a better wage tho. Look at how shitty Europeans are about tipping. Even in America they just refuse to tip and say "well their boss should pay them more." That's how Europeans act and they even know the servers in America aren't getting paid wages. Imagine if they actually were paid the wages.
It's far from ideal but I think if you asked servers they'd prefer the system we have.

You assume they'd keep getting those tips after everyone knows they're already getting paid minimum wage. It's already a decent job. I see no reason to change it.

Just so people know, a waiter will make at least minimum wage if their tips aren't enough. It is the law. They probably won't have a job though, if they don't pull in enough tips.
