I'll just list the measurements we use for various things.
Liquids (such as petrol or fizzy drinks) are measured in ml and l, unless it's Beer or milk which are measured in pints.
Weight of food etc is measured in grams and kilos. Although tonnes are used for very large amounts.
Weights of people are measured in stone.
Distances on roads are measured in miles and yards.
Height of people is done in feet and inches.
Small measurements can be done in either cm or inches.

That's really very similar to Canada. You buy bottled water at metric, but the big jugs of it are sold by imperial units. We use imperial for construction and that sort of thing, but metric for day to day measurements.

It is just that working with imperial seems to be easier to most tradesmen even if its not.

Wouldn't be surprised if all of the commonwealth was pretty similar. Do you guys have imperial pints, American pints or half litres of beer?

a beer for half an hour of work at minimum wage isn't bad at all; this is an excellent argument against increasing minimum wage

as for measuring units...

the us customary and imperial systems are superior to metric in the day to day. sure, they might be arbitrary but that's because they are related to the human experience. science? metric, all the way. but normal life? customary all the way

canada has imperial pints because they are still on the queen's teat. imperial pints were invented in 1824, after the US overthrew its imperial oppressors
