Well it's no Paris, but they get much less tourists. It's easy to get tired of dealing with tourists when there are always thousands and thousands of them around. It's mostly the college age middle-upper middle class hipsters that left a bad impression.

I didn't get the conservative vibe at all. I was only there for a few days as well, and hanging with aforementioned college aged hipsters. I suppose my judgement has as much going for it as Indy's, very limited anecdotal evidence.

i didn't realize people went to niagara falls to look at hotels. i thought they went to go look at niagara falls, and the american side has half the horseshoe + the american falls on it. of course it's better to look from the canadian side
