Goodell must feel like shit too. At this point everyone hates him and is screaming at him to give the refs whatever they want, just get them back. But if he does that he's still a chump because then it's like there was no need for the lockout to ever happen in the first place. Lose-lose for him at this point.

Bad call and a loss for the Packers aside, that was some great theater last night. I had just switched off the Rangers win (Beltre with a walk-off, bases loaded single woot), and then I get to catch the awesomeness that was the ending of Monday Night Football. Great sports night last night, especially after the drama that was Sunday night.

Millions of $'s are at stake here. Coaches and players jobs are at stake.. The players and coaches will look for any edge, and take any advantage.. And because these replacement refs have the 'deer in the headlights' look in their eyes the coaches and players are taking advantage, they're going for these guys jugular.

All that said I don't blame the replace refs. They're not trained, and they're in an impossible situation. I don't know if it's true but I heard on the radio today that in the 1st game of the year, that Weds. Cowboy vs. Giant game the NFL picked who they thought was the best of the replacements for that game.. It was the 1st game, a national game, the NFL wanted to put their best foot forward..

3 of the refs they picked? 2 were HS refs, and one other reffed something called a lingerie game.. So 1/2 the crew didn't even have college experience????? !!! Let alone pro experience. In that 1st game, they did fine.. But the point is that crew was suppose to be the best of the best they had...Yet 3 of the guys never even reffed a college game?

Anyway, again I just heard they are all still meeting in NYC..

He got to give a fvck for two reasons:

1) the class action lawsuits the NFL will be facing over the next how many years.. The NFL is already under the legal gun for concussions, suicides by ex-players, etc.. This kind of stuff ain't going to hepl, at all..

2) the integrity of the game.. The NFL will never admit it, but mucho money is bet on the game every week. And that's important to the NFL.. God forbid if it comes out one of these HS refs or whatever blew a call or a game because HE had bet on a game, or was paid by someone to miss a call. And with what's going on now you wouldn't even need hard core evidence.. Just a whiff of impropriety will cause the sh1t to hit the fan.

The good thing about all this is that it shows how good the professional referees are.

I've been arguing for a long time that other major sports should employ referees on a pro basis. I didn't know that the NFL did until now, but the amateurish umpiring of the games I've seen so far shows just what they are worth.

The NFL can afford to concede everything the Refs are asking for, and at this point there's no value to holding out. Were I an NFL team owner, I'd be calling the other owners and suggesting a united front. No more games until the strike is ended.
