Michael Bay is talented at what he does. Which is make really shitty movies to be enjoyed by the vast horde of retards that populate this planet. I respect him as a money maker. As an artist obviously not.

I saw all three transformers, but I have to say two and three were straight up boring. In my opinion Bay failed by his own standards of making entertaining crap for the masses, other than that he earned gobs of money regardless. Anything involving explosions and giant robots with minimal plot? I'm down with it. But the cheesy "joke" robots in the second and the dull villains in the third ruined it for me.

As for Michael Bay's success I agree with spider it boils down to his dubious "talent" for making whatever tasteless gruel appeals to the masses, of which I count myself a part when it comes to stupid action movies. I generally acknowledge there are different skill sets and try not to prejudge people's career choices. I think cosmeticians and hair stylists for example may have a tremendous implicit background knowledge of chemical composition. While I disagree with the ethical choices people make to become hitmen, I'm sure professional assassins are extremely intelligent and knowledgeable about their trade. But there are a lot of things people do that require little talent and can earn bank, stripping, trading shady financial products, and making transformers 2 and 3 among them. If money is your only standard I can see why you'd judge it a success, but anything beyond that and I seriously question its value.

As a movie fan I have been to several movie conventions and/or festivals, and from what I have seen from some people in the business is a form of definite anxiety, which seems odd given their chosen profession. Some people with anxiety can have comfort zones where even if they are in front of people, they are very comfortable if doing the activity that makes them relaxed. Travis Barker, drummer from Blink 182, is reported to be very anxious, but is fine being in large crowds at their shows when playing the drums. As someone that has anxiety, I noticed Bay definitely seemed a bit anxious once he had to wing his remarks instead of going by a teleprompter. Could be anxiety or could be he doesn't speak well in public from the hip.
