Nukes would have been most likely, but world is very unlikely to end due to mass calamity (I've seen DD preppers and it's hilarious how all the poor folks stocking up on supplies get defense ratings of 2 because, erm, they don't have enough shotguns). We'll probably go into space and extend our civilization in new ways creating new forms of human life and consciousness up to the point where our own contemporary understanding of the species, notion of collective humanity, etc. will dissolve. Then, Transformers.
