As long as the Steelers keep turning the ball over like every other play or whatever, they will be a mediocre team..

And with the rule changes nowadays, which have turned the NFL into a pass happy league, the year 2000 might as well be 100 years ago. You can't win a SB today without at least a good QB that can pass the ball. Because of those rule changes there are NO defenses in the whole league today that are even 1/2 as good as the Raven defense was in 2000. It's impossible to have a shut down Raven of 2000 type defense now. The Ravens defense is pretty poor now, as are most defenses.

Dilfer would be 8-8 with the current Ravens team, tops.

great defenses will always be able to compensate for mediocre QBs (see BAL, 2000)

however at the same time, great offenses will also be able to compensate for bad defenses (see GB, 2011)

flacco is not elite, maybe not even top 10, but he is a competent qb. he just happens to be dealing with a defense that (as you note) is not very good

teams that are merely average on both sides of the ball are the ones that dont win SBs
