What I find funny, and frankly idiotic, is all the people complaining about technology being too easy to use.

well they can have a keyboard but distance to screen is so big that mouse pointer doesn't make sense so i think you're right, it'll be more like for twitter not ms word. still though it will attempt to bring it together

If it works great for smartphones, its probably a really stupid idea on an actual computer. Phones are phones. They are supposed to be very limited devices, suited to mobile tasks.

When you dumb a computer down to that level, it ends up costing efficiency, as we aren't limited by annoying shit like touchscreens.

And the annoyance factor is a very real thing that has to be considered. If a user is irritated by an interface...that's a problem. And Win8 is extremely irritating.

I expect the new xbox gui to mirror metro quite a bit. Which could be ok with gestures and a controller? Maybe? For something as simple as a console.

Voice and gestures are the future, of that there is little doubt. But not yet. No tech has matched the speed and precision of a mouse and keyboard as of yet. My very favorite input method is a 3D mouse. If they could get something like that working as well with gestures, I'd be all over it.

Touchscreen interface makes no sense without a touchscreen. Just irritates the shit out of people. Win8 is literally screwing up PC sales. Sales are going to be lower regardless...but that much suck has multiplied the slide.

I think there needs to be a clear difference distinguished here: most people won't give two shits about how the gui is organized because they don't develop programs/games/apps. But for those that do and for those that generate web based content as simple as gifs or edited movies, the hand swipe interface gets cumbersome because it doesn't reflect the necessary complexities of design.

Just trying to run a word processor or pump out some emails on a touchscreen is enough to make you want to head-butt the damned thing.
