It was once so notorious for its crime statistics that any story about New York City invariably carried the equivalent of a government health warning, but on Monday, NYC went 24 hours without a single report of a person being shot, stabbed or subjected to other sorts of violent crime.

Pretty weird to have not a single reported incident of a violent crime in such a large city. Maybe there was some kind of unconscious collective psychology going on.

Maturing of the race perhaps? Or maybe I'm dreaming. Although violence has been on a steady decline for years, world-wide.

Crime really hasn't been a big deal in NYC for a while now. It's a very safe city, though 24 hours without violent crime is still pretty amazing considering the size of the population.

Wow.....wow. This probably hasn't happened since the 18th century. New York was always a rough town. My little burg (pop. 500K) can't even match that.

Seriously, though - I find it hard to believe that anyone committed a violent crime in NY from noon, Sept 11 to noon, Sept 12, 2001.
