I actually liked this Netflix series more than House of Cards.

Good laughs, some raunchy stuff, and great casting and performances all around...with the notable and irritating exception of Laura Prepon. She really does a lousy job. Flat as hell. And she's an even worse brunette than a blonde. Be red, Red. Miscast, bad acting. Loses a whole point for the show in my view.

Great job transforming Taryn Manning (who is srs hot) into a nasty, almost unrecognizable religious lunatic meth head with a mission from God. She steals the show in my view.

Also, it took me two episodes to recognize Kate Mulgrew. All of a sudden I was like, holy shit that scary/mean old Russian lady that runs the kitchen is Captain Janeway?! Nice. Also, Natasha Lyonne was fun to have around. Even Jason Biggs, as much as he irritates me.

I don't know who the lead is, but she does a convincing suburbanite white girl tossed into the clink to her great horror and dismay...and hardens as the season moves on in just the right ways. Especially towards the end. Damn. Good stuff.

I thought a couple of the guards were a blit cliche, but...prison show. I guess it is what it is.

Great backstories on the characters, good progression. No filler. This is why though we like to bitch abut fewer episodes, the 13 episode format really shines.

Woulda been a 9 except I wanted Laura Prepon to get shanked the whole time. God she sucks in that role. Kinda drags the show down, since everyone else is basically terrific.

What show is this?

I watched the first season and really enjoyed it. I agree with 8/10. I didn't like Prepon's attempted retro 40s hairdo in the flashback scenes but it didn't make me want to stab her. She's not a very believable international heroin smuggler, though.

Still it's a show about the characters and their relationships and that is what makes it interesting. They didn't try to lay on the "Cool Hand Luke" or "Escape from Alcatraz" stuff so it's pretty realistic in it's portrayal of about how incarceration works. A bunch of easily distractible people who want to get back home but can't quite seem to get it right.

haven't watched it yet, but will when I'm done with my Breaking Bad re-watch prior to series finale season.

Plus, I really liked the show's song for some reason.

Daughter put me on to the show a week or so ago, good show, and yes Captain Janeway has aged.

regina spektor is also awesome.

it's really hard for me to take red serious because, while you remember her as the captain of the enterprise, i remember her as kove from ntsf:sd:suv which makes the hardened russian lady act hard to accept.
