GPU diagnostics help?

my GPU has been glitchy for the last few months, and tonight it royally f**k up. blue and black checkerboard screen, fan going all crazy, all sorts of fun stuff. the problem is that it's temperature is actually fine. it hovers around 40c 95% of the time and never goes anywhere higher than ~50. so i honestly don't know why it keeps acting like it's overheating.

anyone know of any programs i can use to stress it to see what's going on with it? i don't want to ditch it quite yet if i can fix it.

You got another GPU laying around? If you do plug that in and try it, make sure it is the GPU and not the slot( if it is plugged into a slot and not built into the MB). Or the CPU(some cards are dependent on the CPU)..

Also re-install the drivers...

Also don't 100% trust your temp readings.. I have a laptop that reads the CPU is over 150 degrees, even when I 1st turn the laptop on.

There's a few other things you can try too.

First thing I would do - take the card out of the computer and put it back in. Make sure its in there snug. If you have multiple PCIE slots, you may want to try it in another.

Drivers could potentially be a problem. I know I'm still using drivers from like March of last year because my GTX 560 had problems with later releases.

Another thing to check would be voltage. Some cards are sent superclocked and whatnot so it could be not enough juice getting there for whatever reason.

If nothing else, use something like EVGA Precision X to set the card to default clock speeds for GPU and memory.

the problem is that the issue isn't constant, so even though i updated the drivers and checked to make sure it was all plugged in fine and no cords were loose, i won't know if it's fine for another few weeks likely. this is why it's been so annoying. it' shuts off the signal to my monitor, for example, as if it's overheating. but the temps are fine, or at least they're stated as fine. and it only does this maybe once or twice a week.

i know something is wrong with it, it's just not broken enough to easily figure it out. it's being a royal pain. i'll try out the evga program though. i know my RAM speed was clocked at a screwy speed for some reason the other day when i checked it, so maybe that's what's going on with my GPu.

it's most definitely my graphics card. if it was my power supply i'd be getting different problems.
