this game is going to be insane. now imagine it with something like the oculus rift.

i think it's going to be responsible for reviving the space sim genre, and that's a great thing.

Honestly, not that impressed by the demo. Its a guy flying around and thats it.

The game itself and what it promises is very impressive. So far, from what I've seen, they've taken every bit of the space sim I had started designing and are using it, all the way to the simulators being a way to PvP and challenge people without actually losing your ship. So, if they do deliver on this game, I ought to like it a lot.

I could share all of my notes out there I guess. Hell, I may even send it all to Chris Roberts. We seem to be thinking along the same lines anyways and I'll never be a game developer - might as well someone else use my ideas so I can play a game I'd want to play =P

That game pushes every button I've got just right.

1. Its stunningly beautiful.
2. Newtonian physics
3. The mechanic of graying or blacking out under high G forces is a perfect way to put a crimp on crazy speeds and no limits on the minimum size of the turn radius. You'll be able to account for an opponent's possible maneuvers by judging how much he can hang it out before he blacks out. Seems ripe to provide some real tactical depth on how the dogfighting doctrines evolve. When you consider the crazy amount of strategic depth Eve Online has developed simply as a result of the different tracking speeds of turrets...the sky is the limit.
4. The strafing along any axis is terrific...to say nothing of the awesome external RCS thrusters...
5. Space sim is my favorite genre. Its been dead for so long that games like Freespace 1&2, Freelancer, Tachyon: The Fringe, X Wing vs TIE Fighter etc etc...feel like dim childhood memories.

All Roberts needs to deliver on is fun gameplay. The engine is amazing. The world building is amazing. He's got that done. We just need it to be FUN. And some solutions to the clearly very glitchy build that was shown need to happen.

Combine all this with Oculus...and my god. I've been putting off building a new rig for quite some time (several years now, been running a 5870 since 2009) just trying to judge what sort of hardware I'd need to run Star Citizen well with Oculus. Seems realistic that I won't even need another GPU generation. I could probably do it sometime this summer and have no worries. Will build an ITX cube this time, methinks. The full tower is starting to seem archaic.

Most people, if they made that joke, they'd laugh or chuckle at their own wit.

Gremlin chortled.

I guarantee it.
