House of Cards - best poli-drama ever?

For me, yes. Effing great show. I've loved Kevin Spacey ever since American Beauty. In this, though, he has reached new heights.
Frankly, I could do without some of the "drama" parts of it. The interpersonal relationships, etc. I love watching the political intrigue. Though some of it is a tad far-fetched, most of it is spot-on, based upon my experience with how some people view their office and power.
Been watching for a week now, doing the typical Netflix marathons. Watching 2-4 episodes/night.

What took you so long to get around to watching it?

Probably but it's a pretty low bar. There haven't really been many good political dramas. West Wing and Scandal are the only two others worth even mentioning I think. West Wing is too Disneyish for my tastes. There's no way a pack of wide eyed idealists like the characters on that show would be senior staff in the White House. Scandal failed to keep my interests after a season and some change. Let's see where the take HOC from here. I liked the first season much more than the second. And the common thread among all three is that they're very unrealistic which is understandable since IRL politics isn't all that dramatic day in and day out.
I think the wire actually did the best job but politics was just one piece of that show.

Only time a guy leapt from house leadership to the Oval Office in our history was Gerald Ford. Does he strike you as a Frank Underwood? This kind of scheming doesn't happen IRL and if it does happen, it doesn't work.

Ok? That just furthers my point that IRL Frank Underwood's leap to the whitehouse would not have happened.

I haven't watched any other shows that are specifically political (never watched West Wing) so I can't really say.
But I thought season 2's quality was below season 1. Some of it got a bit ridiculous.
