I am going to be called a utopian liberal for this but that is what I think. Putting aggressive people together and dehumanizing them is not going to make them upstanding citizens when they get out. The dehumanization is only going to make them worse. Our society is focused more on "punishment" than rehabilitation.

Yeah, for most criminal offenses, prison is very inappropriate. Basically it needs to be reserved for those who engage in violence, while we devise better methods for everyone else.

It would really be nice to have a conversation someday about the aspects of society that facilitate violent reactions in unstable people, instead of how to containerize them after they've done a sufficiently intolerable act
