Got a couple in mind. Anyone tried either of these?
Balvenie 12yr double wood
Glenfiddich 14yr rich oak

Since I know nothing about scotch, I asked my brother, who is a rich snob. As I suspected that he would do, he immediately dismissed both of them as not worth drinking. His recommendation? Jura "Camas an Staca" or Bowmore but if you have to go cheap he says, Glenmorangie.

Bowmore is plenty cheap.

Got a bottle of The Macallan Amber for Christmas. It's matured in sherry oak casks. Will let you know how it tastes.
