Look man, we both know New York has the best of everything. And it's why I don't regret spending my early 20s here. But the mobs of tourists, the insane traffic, the small quarters, the crowded trains....after a while you've done this enough and as it stands now, I think I could get enough NYC with regular visits but I don't see the need to stay here for much longer.
Philadelphia is a great landing point. You get the same east coast flavor, the culture has really come along in the last decade, especially the last 5 years. There are plenty of great things. Just not in the same quantities. Of course being near my beloved teams and having a lot of roots there plays into it for me in a way it won't for you, but I think despite all the bullshit stereotypes, it's a really great place to live that lets you keep enough of what's great about New York while living a better life.

yeah I have close family there but not the same roots. then again I don't have roots anywhere so that's not an issue.
I like the close commute to ny as you mention. convenient way to get the amenities without the hassle.
and philly is pretty cool. I could see myself in some of the nicer north philly neighborhoods or chestnut hill if I'm ready for that level of suburbaness.

But I mean really if you love a good cocktail there are a dozen good places in Philadelphia that would be at or near NYC caliber - just not the 100+ of them that are in lower manhattan alone. If you want a good dinner, well there's no Bernadin but there are very nice very good places to eat. It's a matter of balance to me.

Just watch that documentary series on FX about Philadelphia to get a feel for the city.
