But, look at the flipside. All of those problems you mentioned are also there when you follow NRA guidelines for safekeeping of guns (keep ammo in a separate room, keep the gun locked in a safe, use trigger locks, etc.).

It's simply unsafe, no matter how you slice it, to carry (or leave) a loaded gun around without any safety devices.

I've never had a weapon go off unintended, not in 40 plus years of handling weapons.

I did once see a "cook off" on a machine gun range. That is why we always made sure all weapons were clear before leaving the firing line. For those that don't know a cook off is when the weapon's breach has gotten so hot that a round fires without the hammer striking the primer. It's rare but can happen especially if you are at a range where the same weapons has been fired by many people.
