Aren't prison guards basically just the portion of society's dreck that managed not to get locked up themselves? Its some GED shit and how could it not be? Can't imagine willingly taking that job if I had any other option.

Hence the joke. Despite longstanding problems with law enforcement, it's always been easier to become a corrections officer than a cop. I even had a run-in with one I knew from around town in Cumberland that tried to claim he was a cop when he was breaking up a fight outside a bar. You're a glorified security guard, not a cop. I really wish it was easier to get level-headed people to apply for these jobs.
