my father says stuff like this. however, he also says his gradeschool gym teacher had all the boys swimming naked. now maybe it's so those poor working familys didn't have to buy swim trunks, or maybe it's because perverts existed even in the 50s and 60s.
today we're more aware of this stuff and parents are protective. according to strauss-howe, the current generation (an artist generation, or "homeland" as some call them) is a bunch of overprotected kids, much more so than the hero generation, the millennials (who were increasingly protected growing up)
but of course, this article is saying that the kids of the good old days had it harder in some way than the kids of today. that they weren't coddled and therefore, i'm assuming, more of a real adult because of the mean streets of 50s and 60s suburbia that was their childhood. the over indulged narcissistic boomer generation were not coddled--but they are the ones who are the "weenies". they cried and got whatever they wanted from mommy, and then government, and now they're running things and crying and getting things like health care paid for by their kids. they are the f**k babies

My life has become a single, ongoing revelation that I haven’t been cynical enough.
