Which leads me to a further point. MNC's will never match the power of states because they can't monopolize like states can. Pure and simple. If shell was the only oil provider on earth, maybe they have some power. But when there are 15 other companies that can do the same, shell, and all 15 of those other companies, become replaceable.
The only company with any true power is google, because they have something irreplaceable that most governments do not have. Information on citizens. The awl-marts, shells and boeings of the world are pretty much powerless. They exist as long as governments allow them to exist and they can be replaced by any other company in their industry.
