Reading about the 2016 presidential campaign, it’s easy to forget that America considers itself a democracy. Here are a few recent headlines, chosen almost at random: “Jeb Bush’s eye-popping event: $100K per ticket,” “Hillary Fundraising Off to a Slow Start,” “Chris Christie Hopes To Move Past ‘Bridgegate’ With A National Fundraising Tour,” “Walker targets Romney donors, Jeb turf.” If you handed a Martian an iPad, told her to read 20 recent articles about the 2016 campaign, and then asked her how America chooses its presidents, she’d be more likely to mention money than votes.

Actually, Jeb Bush has as good of a chance of winning the nomination as his brother W again. Jeb Bush defines the most vile side of the Republican party. The Chamber of Greed. The Chamber of Greed believes that the only way you can grow our economy is to flood the country with endless masses of immigrants, even if the immigrants are so poor and uneducated that they will always be a net drain on society.

Well YEAH, it's all about money.

And who has the most money? We know that too.

As for the notion that well, we all get to vote in the final election so we're really a democracy...

Yeah, we get to vote on people who were able to run and get through the primaries and get the nomination, and in order to do that they had to attract the donors with the most money so by the time we get to the general election the candidates have been pretty much chosen for us.

As for this whole theory about flooding the nation with immigrants that are a net drain on us, um: no.
