1) Bad idea to begin with, accountability is nice and all. But for highly specialised jobs should it be exposed to popularism? Should a person with no experience in theory be allowed to have a job that requires a high level of expertise, like say the administration of a hospital, or say policing?
2) Lol mostly independents (a lot of them former police) got elected. Disaster for every party. Why about 1/2 the time Lib dems just could not be f**k, they saw this one coming.
3) John Prescott doesn't get to be sheriff of hull, sadface.
4) Despite various narratives (well, mostly Labours), shows exactly how approximately most of the British public are insanely jaded and could give a f**k about our political system at the moment.

Waste of time and money. As for the by election. Well the tories wont be bothered I should imagine-I mean year on year since 1975 their share of the vote has decreased every general election. They couldnt even beat a deadbeat like Brown.

I like the idea of the police being accountable to the public they are supposed to serve; however, it appears that about 90% of the UK disagree with me.

it by in large seems to work pretty well in the states...although there are some spectacular exceptions: Sheriff Arpio in Arizona comes to mind, and the jurisdiction I'm working in is pretty whacky.

basically jurisdictions with lots of old people like crazy out of control law enforcement.
