yes yes teacher's unions decrease accountability in some circumstances, but that doesn't strike me as a proximal cause for subpar education

A good teacher/instructor usually got me interested. You know what really changed it for me? Having professors that seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say rather than more interested in correcting anything I had to say that was wrong. That way when you got called on being wrong it stung more.
