I think it is damaging to live as a victim. Regardless of whether things are stacked against blacks or not, making excuses has gotten them nowhere. There are a lot of people who overcame great obstacles; they didn't achieve what they did by making excuses or feeling bad for themselves. This is all easier said than done of course. The average black American really is born into a toxic environment. I don't think there is any other solution for them.

Why do conservatives always point to outliers as proof that something is possible instead of establishing whether it's probable?

Structurally reforming the way in which schools are funded and the degree to which this funding falls on the parents of the poorer segments of society. This applies to all grade levels.

As Australia has a proportional allotment scheme for upper education degrees we should embrace that for other levels of education as well and decide how that should administered at the local level be it through property taxes, income taxes, etc. Social Mobility must be the central focus of any attempt to ameliorate current strains.
