It is a good system. But it has it's own problems. It isn't perfect, but it at least provides universal coverage at half the cost.

I know it has issues with things like elective surgery and the wait. But from what my Canadian friends tell me the waits for more pressing surgeries have become much better.

But is that not a small cost to pay for universal coverage? Perhaps people can buy supplemental private coverage for things like that which I believe is what they have in some European countries.

Point being: if we're going to do this, let's do it. Obama's half-assed attempt to appeal to Republicans (?!?!) was stupid to begin with, didn't work, and really is just a gift to insurance companies.

Even here in the uk, healthcare is a devolved matter. There is a separate NHS for England, Wales, Scotland and northern Ireland. Differences for example include that here in Wales I am exempt from any prescription charges, whereas English patients have to pay a subsidised fee on their prescriptions.

When you look at single payer the premise is dirt simple.

What would be really interesting is let's say all these northern states adopt it but the southern states take a tea party stand to spite everybody and don't have it--would people start moving?
