The death penalty demeans us as a society. But what's always struck me as odd is that the tough on crime crowd thinks it would be "soft" of us to eliminate executions. I disagree. Put a guy in solitary for the rest of his life with no parole. I actually think death is more merciful than having to slowly go mad for decades in a 6 by 8 coffin. There's nothing soft about life without parole. No one serving life without parole is getting off easy.
