remember my little blurb about American Exceptionalism? how it can be a scary concept because it's based on all sorts of weird and inaccurate absolutes? that's basically the audience this movie is appealing to.
ON THE OTHER HAND THEY HAVE A POINT.....
You got the Zinns and Ward Churchills of the "college town democrat" faction who basically make the same mistake, having a world view based on all sorts of weird and inaccurate absolutes (often some form of Marxism).
BOTH are complete shit heads because they are working off the flawed premise that there are "good guys" out there, and while there are some decent individuals in this world there are never been a society without it's share of blood guilt, the larger and more ambitious the society often the greater the guilt.
America is a great Liberal Empire, it (and Americans) have done terrible things, however in the greater context of human experience the amazing things out-weighs the terrible things. that's where a society wants to be.
