I don't see China moving away from coal on a large scale anytime soon. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I don't see how that addresses my point, which is that many people simply don't give a shit about the environment. Saying they should is absolutely correct, but not a valid response IMO.

For every person who really tries hard to watch their waste, conserve energy and advocate for sensible caretaking, there are ten who'd love to see that wilderness area turned into a strip mall.

Right. Why? Because they're not directly affected by it--yet. And that's the worst part: they have a chance to head off disaster but instead are going to ignore that to live the ultra-liberal, do-it-if-it-feels-good consumption lifestyle.

But they also don't care because in this country we've had industry-bought politicians and pundits convince them that this threat doesn't exist and is in fact a "hoax." Or even worse, there's "debate" about this.

People are actually being prevented by LAW in some states from talking about fracking--not only a horrifying development but a clear First Amendment violation that should appall any American.

But hey: f**k Al Gore and Obama! This is left vs. right!
