But fiscally I think we're more conservative than we've been in a long time and maybe still trending right.

Most democratic voters I talk to today are mainly motivated by fear or contempt for republican officials so I don't think there's a big difference in that motivating factor.

Dems run on 'We're not Republicans'.. I see that as different than 'us against them'..
When Bush was Prez many Dems called him incompetent and ran on 'vote for us because we're not Bush'.
But Republicans flat out say Obama is purposely trying to destroy the country. And he's a socialist, etc. Us against them, vote GOP to save the country from being destroyed. You beat it into people's heads that someone is trying to destroy the country they love and it becomes us against them.
