The best solution is for the government to build the pipes using taxpayer money and then having the ISPs be able to service anyone that the pipes go. So if I wanted Verizon as my ISP, they could offer me internet service regardless if I am in a Verizon area or not. They should do the same with cable TV and telephone too. But it would take much more than just that to do what I am saying. It would basically require a completely new infrastructure. It would provide real competition at least.

But why shouldn't companies be able to determine what content and access you get, since they're the ones providing the service.
